When your job involves spending several hours a day on the computer, like mine does, inevitably, your mind will occasionally wander. And when my mind begins to demand something other than the written word, I tend to cruise the web for websites that promote my other interests, like yoga of course! And, when writing for a yoga blog, this innocent web-surfing inevitably leads to some excellent blog fodder.
During an increasing obsession with Groupon, I discovered My Yoga Online, a website dedicated to all things wellness and yoga. My Groupon purchase got me an initial three-month membership to the site for a highly discounted rate so, figuring I had nothing to lose, I signed up and logged on. Upon first visit, I was skeptical. I’ve been let down by these kinds of websites before and I wasn’t expecting to be blown away. But as I began to cruise through the site, I was quickly shown a site that is well-cultivated and managed. It is easy to maneuver around and the videos are all of a high quality.
As the weeks passed, I cannot explain my love for this site. On it, you can find thousands of yoga videos, various types of practice, tips, articles and wellness lessons, all with just the click of your mouse. For me, it has been a great opportunity to explore different types of yoga in the privacy of my own home, without feeling potentially silly in a studio, and without spending costly amounts on specific practice DVDs when I can access thousands of classes for the cost of one recording. There is a link to guided meditations, access to relaxing music to play during your class and connections to the rest of the yoga community. A quick hookup to my computer puts the videos on the widescreen right in the comfort of my living room.
This website is extremely versatile and has classes and techniques available to all levels of practice. And perhaps my favourite thing about the site is the Program section, where the website helps your work towards your own personal fitness, yoga and wellness goals with a customized program. You can even mix up your routine with Pilates classes and workshops. The options are literally endless.
Recently, My Yoga Online membership was up for renewal and I didn’t even bat an eye to pay the annual fee, which is shockingly low and well worth the money. For those of you looking to access a large variety of videos and other tips surrounding your practice, I encourage you to sign up to this site. You won’t regret it.
